It is a time for change and new growth. We are currently experiencing both in our bakery. It’s funny how we can feel sadness, joy and excitement all at the same when big changes are happening. Mike, our baker who has actually become a close friend, is moving on to new opportunities. We couldn’t be happier for him. Over three years ago I brought Mike into the bakery to help, because we were growing and required an additional pastry chef. A really tall, red-headed young man was more than willing to jump at the chance and luckily I took him up on it. It’s so funny to think back on the first time he picked up a spatula to ice a cake and the look of fear in his face. Today, I could take a weekend off and know that my bakery was in capable hands. Mike has become known as the “cheesecake guy” to my “cake guy” title. So, it is with happiness and a little sadness that I wish an amazing employee and friend every good thing he deserves in life. We wish to welcome Jim, my new right hand man. Stay on your toes, because you have big baker’s clogs to fill! So, moving forward we have Pina Colada Cake and Lemon Cheesecake for all of you this month.

Marquette is the winner of the 2010 Dozen Distinctive Destinations “Fan Favorite” award – chosen by the public via an online vote that took place during the month of February. For 10 years the National Trust has annually selected 12 communities across America that offer cultural and recreational experiences different from those found at the typical vacation destination. This year, the National Trust asked the public to get involved by voting for their favorite destination among the 12, to be named the 2010 Fan Favorite.
